Communication in general is an important aspect of connection it is an integral instinct of all living things. Connection is what builds people and communities. Methods such as written and oral communication constitutes the building blocks of connection. Thus, giving incommodity to the unfamiliar users of the language or to the less communicative people. In terms of oral and written communication, the mother tongue, educational background, current inhabited environment, peers, hobbies, family status, unavailability of modern technology to the public sector, flawed syllabi and examination systems, shortage of english teachers in remote areas, and lack of teacher training are the arising factors to having good communication towards everyone and to the world.

It is said that number one language art is oral communication. We speak way more than we write. All of our important communication is verbal. A resume might get a person in the door, but how he speak in the interview gets him the job. Teachers hand out all kinds of materials but how they speak in the classroom controls the learning in the class. Oral communication is also way more important now than it was because of all the various technologies that are out there to facilitate oral communication but this does not mean that written communication is not as important as well. Although emphasis on oral communication should be given to eradicated the existing problems of speakers, written communication should be enhanced simultaneously.

A mediocre speaker may be a good writer and in reverse a good speaker might be a bad writer (or they could be both good or bad at both, who knows?) The reason behind this might be because of the problems stated above.

What are the barriers of both oral and written communication?

Communication is a prerequisite that plays a major role in building a relationship. It influences the effectiveness of instructions, performance, and handling of disciplinary problems. For one to understand one another, there should be straightforward, coherent, and clear communication. Hence, it is natural that there are some barriers affecting the integrity of the communication.

These are the Psychological Barrier, it is related to the limitations of the human body and mind and under this are, Poor Listening Skills, being a passive rather than an active listener, Information Overload, being surrounded by pool of information that creates misinterpretation and distortion the the information, Inattention, hearing and not listening, Emotions, and Poor retention. Second, Social Barriers which includes the social psychological phenomenon of conformity, a process in which the norms, values, and behaviors of an individual begin to follow those of the wider group. Then the Cultural Barriers, culture shapes the way people think and behave, people of different cultures will experience these culture factors as a barrier to communicate with each other. Next is the Semantic Barrier the Language, jargon, slang, etc., are some of the semantic barriers. Different languages across different regions represent a national barrier to communication. Linguistic Barriers individual linguistic ability may sometimes become a barrier to communication. The use of difficult or inappropriate words in communication can prevent the people from understanding the message. Past Experience, If someone has awful experiences in the past related to some particular situation, then he/she will try to avoid communication in that situation. Organizational Barriers, unclear planning, structure, information overload, timing, technology, and status difference are the organizational factors that may act as barriers to communication. Technological Failure message not delivered due to technical failure. Barriers Related with the Message, the Unclear Messages, and Stereotypes. These barriers can be both seen in written and oral communication. — July 30, 2016
